Orcs Must Die! VS Tournament filming complete!

What a relief to be done filming this series! It took over a month to get all the rounds filmed. Obviously many episodes have already been through post-production since they are being posted on Machinima Realm now, but many are yet to be completed. I have five rounds left to compile in After Effects and it’s actually a good amount of work to do it since it’s not complete copy/paste.

I think the biggest hurdle for me with doing a project like this was handling all the logistics. Scheduling everyone’s matches, figuring out time zones differences from Florida, USA to Auckland, New Zealand and everything in between, and generally staying organized and on schedule.

There were hiccups throughout the filming with the custom onslaught files crashing computers which pushed filming back weeks…the limitations of some people’s computers were far below my own so tweaking the files to get that perfect balance of difficulty, fun, and entertaining to watch was very tough…especially in the final few matches.

My main goal when I started this series was to show Robot Entertainment that the game could easily translate into competitive play past just the leader board system. Live action versus is a viable style for Orcs Must Die! and I honestly can’t think of another tower defense game that would benefit from it. The game is magical in that aspect and the universe deserves to be expanded upon in another game. All-in-all, I’m happy with the outcome but I’m not quite sure if I’d want to do it again. At least not for a long while…I need a rest from such a stressful series.

I hope you all enjoy all the hard work that’s been put in by ALL the players and myself…I think the series really shows what a great game Orcs Must Die! is and can be (past the ordinary gameplay) and that the community behind the game is a strong, tight-knit group.

Thanks so much for watching, participating, and spreading the word!
